Understanding rate changes in Consult

To understand the impact of changing internal rates as compared to project rates, admins and PMs should note that they have differing impacts on past data.

This page explains the distinction and what the expected impact is.

Internal rate (user profile)

The internal rate set per user in their profile and is used for calculating internal cost-based statistics in real time. These include:

  • Contractor monthly spend (month-to-date)
  • Project margin
  • Internal cost

This rate is only visible to app admins or users that are explicitly given the right to manage users. These users can also change the rate.

Important: Changing the internal rate will affect all past data. The system applies the current internal rate to all recorded hours, even for work done in the past.

This means that historic stats will reflect the new rate, not the rate that was applicable at the time of the work.

Project rate

The project rate is configured on a per-project basis and is used for:

  • Project statistics
  • Cash flow calculations
  • Invoicing

Important: Changing the project rate does not affect past data. Historical project stats remain accurate and reflect the rate that was in effect at the time the work was done.
