User field reference
Below are the fields on the New User form and their corresponding validation rules and usages across the app.
Full Name
- Definition: The person's full name.
- This is the default display name of the user, such as in lists, approval modals, and reports.
- It is used when searching for users in tables, dropdowns, and lists.
Email
- Definition: Work email for the user.
- It also acts as the user's username during login.
- Email notifications are sent to this address.
Phone Number
- Definition: User's mobile phone number.
- Only stored on Consult as a reference for managers to be able to look up and contact the user on their phone if needed.
- Validation: Must be in E.164 international format, starting with
+, followed by country code and subscriber number, digits only (no spaces, dashes, or parentheses). The total length is typically 8–15 digits after the+.- Example (South Africa):

Job Title
- Definition: The person's job title (e.g., Consultant, Project Manager).
- Not used by Consult for any functional logic.
Start Date
- Definition: The date the person started working at the organization.
- Used for anniversary events on the Resource Dashboard.
Application Role
- Definition: The user's role (e.g., Admin, Manager, Contractor).
- Controls which pages and views a user has access to across the app.
- For more details on roles, see Manage roles.
Reports To
- Definition: The line manager that this user reports to.
- Not used by Consult for any functional logic.
Country
- Definition: The country where the user is based or primarily operates.
- Determines which public holidays will be linked to the user.
- Determines the default Country of projects created by the user.
Base Currency
- Definition: The primary currency associated with this user.
- Used as the reference currency for Internal Rates.
- Impacts financial calculations, reporting, and margin computations for this user.
Internal Rate
- Definition: The user's hourly internal rate.
- This rate takes effect from the selected Start Date and is expressed in the user's Base Currency.
- Used widely in Consult, such as for margin and profitability metrics.
- Only users that have
View Internal Ratesas part of their abilities can view sensitive financial data linked to the internal rate.
